Rockaway Twp. officials find body in reservoir

ROCKAWAY TWP. --Local and township officials retrieved the body of a man from the Split Rock Reservoir on Monday afternoon, Rockaway Township Fire Chief Joe Mason said.

No positive identification could be made until an autopsy is conducted, officials said.

The Rockaway Township police and fire department assisted the Morris County Prosecutor's Office in the recovery.

Marcella Company 3 launched a boat to bring the officers and fire department personnel to the recovery site, approximately one-half mile northwest of the Split Rock Dam.

Although no positive identification could be made on Monday, police have been searching for a township man, Richard Zangrando, 23, who was reported missing early last Tuesday afternoon.

His car was spotted at the Split Rock Recreation Area parking lot at 1:13 p.m. by township police Patrolman Jerome Daniels. There was no sign of Zangrando at the time.

ROCKAWAY TWP. --Police will resume searching at first light this morning for a township man, Richard Zangrando, 23, who was reported missing early Tuesday afternoon.

His car was spotted at the Split Rock Recreation Area parking lot at 1:13 p.m. by township patrolman Jerome Daniels. But there was no sign of Zangrando.

A search on land and of the reservoir had turned up no trace by nightfall, according to Township Police Chief Walter Kimble on Tuesday night.

N.J. State police, Morris County Prosecutor and Sheriff and Rockaway Township Fire Department personnel are assisting in the search.
